Gangtey & Wangdi Festival

Date : 10th – 13th Oct(Thongdral on last day) 2019

~ Itinerary Outline ~ 

Mon 29th Sept Arrive Paro. Transfer to Thimphu for sightseeing (1 hr). Visit the Chang-gangkha temple, takin reserve, Dechenphodrang Monastic Institute and finally, take a stroll to the Memorial Chorten.

Tue 30th Sept Full program of sightseeing in Thimphu. Visit the Folk Heritage Museum, Institute for the 13 Traditional Arts (Zorig Chusum), Traditional Medicine and Textile Museum and the Thimphu Dzong (Trashicho Dzong). .

Wed 1st Oct Drive to Punakha (2½hrs). Full day sightseeing in Punakha valley. Visit Dochula pass, Chimi Lhakhang and drive toward the Punakha Dzong.

Thu 2nd Oct Drive to Wangdi (½ hr) and attend Wangdi Festival. The festival is no longer held in Wangdi Dzong after the Dzong was caught by the fire , so its held in the army camp courtyard. The festivities consist mainly of masked dances, chanting, blessing & reading religious texts and historical drama taking place in and around, as well as religious masked dances.

Fri 3rd Oct Drive to Phobjikha valley. (3½hrs) and attend Gangtey festival.

Sat 4th Oct Drive to Paro (5½ hrs) & visit the Rinpung Dzong & Ta Dzong museum.

Sun 5th Oct Hike to Taktsang Monastery. Afternoon visit Drugyel Dzong and Kichu Lakhang, one of the oldest temples in Bhutan.

Mon 6th Oct Flight departure from Paro.
