Thimphu Festival

Date : 7th – 9th Oct 2019

~ Itinerary Outline ~ 

Wed 1st Oct Arrive Paro. Transfer to hotel. Afternoon sightseeing in Paro valley. Visit Paro Ta Dzong Museum and Rinpung Dzong.

Thu 2nd Oct Drive to Punakha (3½hrs). Full day sightseeing in Punakha valley. Visit Dochula pass, Chimi Lhakhang and drive toward the Punakha Dzong and options to attend the 2nd day of the Punakha Festival.

Fri 3rd Oct Drive to Phobjikha. (3½hrs) Visit Gangtey Monastery and options for short hikes.

Sat 4th Oct Morning in Phobjikha. Set out along the Nature Trail, skirting the forest and passing through the edge of the forest and some small villages. Afternoon drive to Thimphu. Evening, take a stroll to the Memorial Chorten.

Sun 5th Oct Attend Thimphu Tsechu festival at the Tashicho Dzong. The festivities consist mainly of masked dances performed in gorgeous silk costumes, chanting, blessing & reading religious texts. Thronging with locals, these occasions are a visual delight.

Mon 6th Oct Full program of sightseeing in and around Thimphu. Visit the Folk Heritage Museum, Institute for the 13 Traditional Arts (Zorig Chusum), Institute of Traditional Medicine, Textile Museum. Afternoon visit takin reserve and Sangaygang view point. Overnight to Paro.

Tue 7th Oct Early morning hike to Taktsang Monastery, the famous “Tiger’s Nest”. Afternoon visit Drugyel Dzong and Kichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in Bhutan.

Wed 8th Oct Flight departure from Paro. Tashi Delek!
